The San Diego Minority Supplier Development Council is opening a 12,500-square-foot facility providing office space for small, minority-owned and women-owned companies. It is scheduled to open May 3 at 10679 Westview Parkway.

A May 1 statement from the not-for-profit organization said the Minority Entrepreneur Supplier Development Center will include amenities for companies looking to establish an on-site or “virtual” presence through the use of technology and support services.

Seven companies have committed to setting up shop on-site, with room available for one or two more. Council Director Ron Garnett plans to include training programs similar to those offered to workers at large corporations, such as leadership training.

The center is funded by donations from small businesses and gifts from some major corporations, including Disney and San Diego Gas & Electric Co., the statement said.

The local development council is an affiliate of the New York-based National Minority Supplier Development Council Inc., comprised of 37 regional councils with more than 3,500 corporate members and 15,000 certified minority-owned businesses.
