San Diego Minority Supplier Development Council Hosts Supplier Diversity Achievement Week
SAN DIEGO—The San Diego Regional Minority Supplier Development Council will host its 2nd annual Supplier Diversity Achievement Week in San Diego June 6 – 10, 2011.
Mayor Jerry Sanders will officially kick off the week-long event on Monday, June 6, at 8:45 a.m., at Intuit Corporate Headquarters, 7535 Torrey Santa Fe Road. Intuit is a corporate member of the Council. Other corporate members hosting conference events include: Turner Construction, Bridgepoint Education, Sony Electronics, and Life Technologies.
This year’s program adds the Supplier Diversity MBE Trade Show which takes place June 9 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. The trade show provides an opportunity for minority business enterprises (MBEs) to showcase their businesses to corporations as well as the general public.
“Last year, the San Diego City Council announced its support for regional small and minority businesses by approving and implementing the City’s Small Local Business Enterprise (SLBE) program,” said San Diego Regional Minority Supplier Development Council President and CEO Ron Garnett. “This year, we will add more value for our members through a number of new initiatives.” The SLBE program, which went into effect July 1, 2010, encourages greater availability, capacity development, and contract participation in City contracts for small and minority-owned businesses.
The 2011 conference program includes seminar topics including: Supporting Small and Diverse Business in San Diego, Strategies for Making Supplier Diversity Work, Key Strategies for Winning Contracts, and a new best practices panel in which corporate executives share their strategies for creating successful diversity programs. The finale for the week will be an awards celebration and benefit jazz concert featuring Rachelle Ferrell at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.
